Athena, who carries a helmet and a spear, was the goddess of wisdom, handicraft and warfare, furthermore the owl was her sacred animal.
According to Greek mythology her name was given to the city of Athens after winning contest with Poseidon, the god of the sea. She won the patronage of the city after offering it citizens the most beneficial present, an olive tree.
