Meet NEDA
Neda, in Greek mythology, was a nymph, a deity of springs, daughter of Oceanus (Ocean), the largest of all the rivers. Nymphs were beautiful young women, spirits of nature, who walked around the forests and the rivers. They were playing with Artemis and singing with Pan, out in the wild.
According to the myth, when Zeus (Jupiter) was born, his mother Rhea gave him to Neda to protect him from her husband Cronus (Saturn). Arcadia was a very arid place at that time, so Rhea struck the earth with her stick, creating a rich spring and a river, to which Neda granted her name.
Neda is also the largest of the few Greek rivers with a female name. It originates from Mount Lycaeus in Messinia and, heading west, flows in the Ionian sea.
